The 45-year-old was shot two days before on Thursday night at around 10:15 p.m. in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side of Chicago.

Police said the shooting was result of botched robbery or carjacking, but his friends and family members believe the contestant of the Mexican version of The Voice was targeted.

Fuentes was shot three times on his head in the 4300 block of South Archer. Witnesses said a man suddenly appeared after Fuentes and his friends got into his car. The man ordered him to come out of the car but he refused a couple of times.

The attacker showed a gun to the singer and shot him when he came out.

The singer appeared on “La Voz” in 2011 and gained fame. Despite his success his friends said he remained committed to helping young talents to the arts.

Friend Miguel Sanchez said, “Instead of taking the light, he was putting the light on all those guys. So this is a big loss and I don’t think there’s anyone who can take his place.”

In his vigil the Pastor Angel Garcia said people here want justice. Some of his music students too attended to honor the teacher. Friends and family said they pray for a man whose voice touched people across Mexico.
