The Indian Supreme Court on Saturday paved the way for the construction of Ram Mandir at the disputed Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid site.

The verdict was delivered by a five-judge Constitution bence headed by the outgoing Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, CJI-designate SA Bobde and Justices S A Nazeer, Ashok Bhushan and DY Chandrachud.

In the verdict the apex court added that a separate land measuring five acres should be given to the Sunni Waqf Board by the Centre for the construction of a masque in the Ayodhya town of Uttar Pradesh.

The court said the UP Sunni Central Waqf Board failed in establishing its case in the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute and the Archaeological Survey of India established that a mandir existed beaneath the destroyed structure.

SC further added that it was not clear whether a mandir was demolished to build the Babri Masjid.

The top court said verdict of Allahabad High Court in 2010 was wrong in which the 2.77-acre disputed land was divided equally among the Nirmohi Akhara, the Sunni Waqf Board and Ram Lalla.
