The Trump Taj Mahal casino is breathing last. Following Labor Day it will shut down finally, after undergoing longest strike in the era of 38 years of casino in Atlantic City.
The casino is currently owned by billionaire Carl Icahn, but it was founded by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
In 2014 four casinos were shut down in Atlantic City and as an aftermath 8,000 workers lost their jobs. With the closing of Trump Taj Mahal more 3,000 workers will become jobless, and the total number of casinos in the city will be left to seven henceforth.
More casinos may come to closure after two new casinos come up in northern New Jersey, outside New York City. However, these two are yet to be decided by voters later this year in November.
Tropicana Entertainment President Tony Rodio said about Trump Taj Mahal they could no longer operate a money-losing property.
The casino is run by Tropicana Entertainment.
Rodio added, “Currently the Taj is losing multi-million a month, and now with this strike, we see no path to profitability.”
Donald Trump was the owner of three casinos in Atlantic City earlier, but from 2009 he had cut his ties with the city.
