A data reveals about 10,000 people die every year in the capital from long-term exposure to air pollution.

Experts from the London Air monitoring centre at King’s College said the toxic fumes levels in the air are currently bad in the city.

London too has traffic problem like many other populated cities in the world and Green Party Assembly Member Caroline Russell said the car-free day is not a replacement to it.

She added pollution need to be tackled at the source instead of issuing warning of it to the people.

The party member also mentioned, “I have supported the Mayor’s idea for Paris-style ‘car free’ days but car free days are no substitute for decisive action on air pollution and traffic reduction.”

According to Green Party peer Jenny Jones, the London Mayor should also urge the people not to drive when there is air pollution spike in the city.

Meanwhile, it is advised to people to remain indoors and reduce strenuous physical activity.

The Mayor had earlier announced to be spending more than 700 million pounds on cycling schemes to make the city safe for cyclist and cycle will also become obvious choice for Londoners.
