TVS Motor total sales rise 13% YoY in Aug’24

The two-wheeler industry showed outstanding growth in its sales figures for August. The cumulative sales of the two-wheeler maker jumped by 13.23 percent to 391,588 units in August 2024, as against a figure of 345,848 during the similar month last year.

On a month-on-month basis, total domestic sales of two-wheelers registered 30.02 per cent growth at over 16 lakh units in July from around 12.41 Lakh bikes and scooters sold in June this year indicating the increased demand among consumers for motorbikes.

The overall sales of Two-Wheelers grew by a strong 14.07%. From August 2023, when sales were at just 332,110 units, the auto industry mounted a steady comeback to end up with an impressive tally of 378,841 units in august fourth this year. A press release mentioned that this growth was further proof of the growing popularity of two wheelers as a convenient mode to commute.

Two wheeler sales in the domestic market zoomed to 289,073 units during August ’24 up by 12.65 percent as compared with generating a sale of 256615 numbers at last year (August 3). The increase in the sales of two-wheelers locally shows rising consumer aspiration and a developing domestic market for motorcycles.

On the other hand, motorcycle sales recovered 11.39%, with a total of 170,486 units in August 2024 compared to just 14657 thousand units in August 2023. Despite appearing minuscule, the numbers show a consistent willingness to put bums on bike seats at higher rates than what scooters and mopeds command, as motorcycles are usually priced for their versatility, if not outright performance.

Scooter sales were up 14.83% as requirements work kept demand for mobility options afloat. That’s up from 142,502 units in August 2023 to this year’s total of some 163,629 Audi vehicles. Scooters remain highly popular with urban riders coming from conventional modes of transportation looking for a more practical and easier-to-drive option.

Electric vehicles segment registered a bit more rise with 3.73% but promising. Sales rose to 24,779 units in August from 23,887 a year earlier. While not as big of a growth rate compared to other segments, this still shows how the future is slowly changing in favor sustainable and eco-friendly means of transport.

The export performance was, in particular view very impressive for the company. Mixed news for exports too, as the total number of vehicles shipped overseas increased by 14.24%, from August 2023’s tally of around 87,515 units to more than double that amount, nearly one lakh at exactly 99,976 in August just gone past.

Commenting on the export scenario, Knappov says that this rise in exports further reinforces the recognition and competitiveness of Renault’s two-wheelers across different global markets.
