Mahindra Group: Mahindra Group’s motorcycle brand BSA launched its first product in India — 652-cc Gold Star 650 model priced at Rs 2.99 lakh.

BSA, the legendary motorcycle brand of the Mahindra Group, made an iconic entry into the Indian market with the launch of the Gold Star 650. Priced at ₹2.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), this official entry of BSA into India blends modern engineering with old-school British design.

BSA’s Rich History

BSA is an abbreviation for Birmingham Small Arms Company. This company was founded in 1861 in Birmingham, England, and later on became one of the largest motorcycle manufacturers in the whole world. The brand went on to serve great importance during the two World Wars, with a special contribution regarding World War II, where it manufactured over 126,000 motorcycles for military purposes.

Among others, BSA was the motorcycle of reliability and performance, dominating racetracks and becoming the record-setter at the Isle of Man TT and Daytona 200.

In 2016, Mahindra’s premium motorcycle arm, Classic Legends, acquired BSA and thereby revived this historic brand, along with bringing Jawa and Yezdi motorcycles back to India. The revival of BSA is testimony to the commitment by Mahindra to keep alive the history and heritage of these iconic motorcycles, not only in India but also around the world.

BSA re-enters India with its wide network of dealers and service centers throughout the country. The Gold Star 650 will be offered in 52 dealerships across the nation while supply is expected to start in the next 10 days. Anand Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra Group, speaking during the launch, stated that bringing BSA to India is about sharing a piece of the world motorcycling history.

For him, Gold Star 650 epitomizes the indomitable spirit of BSA, a brand fashioned in the fires of battle and venerated for its engineering excellence.

Now, BSA is not only looking at the Indian market but also has plans to expand business in the US, Australia, and Japan very soon. The company aims to retain its Britishness even while working with Indian engineering talent for the best mix entirely relevant and resonant for the Indian market.

The BSA Gold Star 650 will be launched on August 15, 2024, on the 78th Independence Day of the country.
