A strong earthquake of 6.2-magnitude was felt across South Asia today having epi centre in Afghanistan’s Hindukush region. It jolted buildings in Pakistan and India too.
US Geological Survey reports the epicenter was about 88 kilometers from Feyzabad in Afghanistan and 209 kilometers deep. It lasted for around 30 seconds.
Panic was triggered in Kabul, Islamabad, Srinagar, Chandigarh and Delhi. People rushed out from high-rise buildings. No immediate loss of property and life has been reported from the three countries.
This was the follow-up quake after tremors of 4.9-magnitude jolted 109 ESE of Yanqi in China and another of same Richter Scale in Nepal. A 6.7-magnitude is also reported earlier today 179km southwest of Dadali, Solomon Islands.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre in Hawaii didn’t issue a tsunami warning saying it was not sufficient to generate it.
Earlier this year Nepal was badly hit by a 7.9-magnitude earthquake and the shock was felt in Indian capital New Delhi too, resulting with devastation in few states including West Bengal and Bihar.
A prediction was released last week by Indian scientists about major earthquake to hit Nepal and India as seismic energy was being build-up under the Himalayan thrust fault.
Meanwhile, Twitter has been flooded with reactions after the earthquake in the three neighboring countries.
